Artist Statement

In a quiet bushland setting, surrounded by jarrah trees and bathed in a soft, moody light, sits Peter Scott’s studio gallery,
Margaret River Studio of Fine Art
A wonderful painting environment, situated eight  minutes to the west of Margaret River.

Throughout Peter's 39 years in fine art, he has developed a style showing influences of the Impressionists and his inspiration come from subjects that surround him, using different lights, a variety of mediums and strong colour, he captures the ever changing ambience and atmosphere’s that permeate this wonderful region.

Peter was born in 1955 in Bunbury, Western Australia and currently lives in Margaret River with his wife Mari.

Completing a Diploma in Graphic Design in 1974 and working in advertising and Furniture manufacturing, he gave up his employment in 1992 to become a full time visual artist and has been teaching and exhibiting ever since.

Since 1981, Peter Scott’s work was featured in Eight Solo and
Twenty Six Joint Exhibitions.
He has won thirty-five prizes and awards. This includes first prize in the WA Society of Art, Pastel Society of WA and has been selected three times in the ANL Maritime Art Prize and Exhibition – a national touring award and his paintings are represented in corporate and private collections worldwide.

Using a wealth of knowledge and expertise he has gathered for over thirty nine years, Scott conducts art classes in a tranquil bush environment at his studio gallery, where he predominantly works and teaches in Acrylic, Oil and Pastel. ENTER THE MUSE :  Peter takes a look at his own Muses and the interplay they have on his life and his own painting. In Mythology, the Muses were nine goddesses who symbolized the arts and sciences. Today, a Muse, that transpersonal aspect of our awareness through which creative insight and innovation can pour into us; a woman, or a force personified as a woman, who is the source of inspiration for creative artists, writers, painters and musicians.

A recent plane trip along the coastline between Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin has been the inspiration for some of these artworks.
